Osteoarthritis of the knees in the COPCORD world

Authers: Syed A. HAQ, Fereydoun DAVATCHI

Abstract: This paper examines and summarizes data on knee osteoarthritis (AO) in Community Oriented Program For Control Of Rheumatic Disorders (COPCORD) publications. A literature search was made through PubMed, Google, Proceedings of Asia-Pacific League of Associations for Rheumatology (APLAR) congresses, and Abstracts from APLAR congresses. Data were compiled to examine the prevalence of knee OA and knee pain, sex ratio, urban/rural differences and other risk factors. Data on knee pain and OA were available in ... سال انتشار: 2011

Mesenchymal stem cell therapy for knee osteoarthritis. Preliminary report of four patients

Authers: Fereydoun DAVATCHI, Bahar SADEGHI ABDOLLAHI, Mandana MOHYEDDIN, Farhad SHAHRAM1, Behrooz NIKBIN

Abstract: Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a cartilage degenerative process, involving the immune system, producing local inflammatory reactions, with production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and metalloproteinases. No treatment is still available to improve or reverse the process. Stem cell therapy opened new horizons for treatment of many incurable diseases. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) due to their multi-lineage potential, immunosuppressive activities, limited immunogenicity and relative ease of growth in culture, have attracted attentions for clinical use. Aim: The aim of ... سال انتشار: 2011

Study of the correlation of serum selenium level with Behcet’s disease

Authers: Kamal ESALATMANESH, Ahmadreza JAMSHIDI, Farhad SHAHRAM, Fereydun DAVATCHI, Seyed Ali MASOUD, Zahra SOLEIMANI, Mansour SALESI, Iman GHAFFARPASAND

Abstract: Selenium, like other trace elements and antioxidant enzymes, is known as an antioxidant and immunomodulator trace element. Due to recent evidence for selenium deficiency in Behcet’s syndrome, this study is to evaluate the correlation of serum selenium level with Behcet’s disease (BD). Materials: This case–control study was conducted on 46 BD patients and 46 healthy controls in a rheumatology research centre. The case and control groups were both age- and race-matched. Serum selenium level ... سال انتشار: 2011

Behcet’s disease: is there a gender influence on clinical manifestations?

Authers: Fereydoun DAVATCHI, Farhad SHAHRAM, Cheyda CHAMS-DAVATCHI, Bahar SADEGHI ABDOLLAHI, Hormoz SHAMS, Abdolhadi NADJI, Tahereh FAEZI, Massoomeh AKHLAGHI, Zahra GHODSI, Roghieh LARIMI, Farima ASHOFTEH

Abstract: In Behcet’s disease (BD), it is customary to believe that men are more affected than women, major organs are more involved in men, and they have worse outcomes. The male-to-female ratio is reported from 5.37 to 1 (Egypt), to 0.38 to 1 (US). If in the majority of reports BD was seen more frequently in men, in some others it was more frequent in women. The aim of this study was to examine ... سال انتشار: 2011

Authers: Eveline U. IRSCHICK, Sebastian PHILIPP, Farhad SHAHRAM, Michael SCHIRMER, Massih SEDIGH, Naghmeh ZIAEE, Christoph GASSNER, Harald SCHENNACH, Martina MEYER, Clara LARCHER, Manfred HEROLD, Dieter SCHOENITZER, Dietmar FUCHS, Michael SCHOENBAUER, Matthias MAASS, Hartwig P. HUEMER, Fereydoun DAVATCHI

Abstract: Behc¸et’s disease (BD) is an autoimmune disorder associated with HLA-B51 positivity. Serologic/genomic findings have suggested microbes as possible causative agents and the geographical distribution suggests environmental influences. Methods: We performed comparative analyses of 40 patients with BD or related symptoms not fulfilling BD criteria. Patients originating from different regions of Iran were tested by molecular/serological methods for human herpes viruses and parvovirus B19, two Chlamydiae species, as well as Coxiella, Listeria, Yersinia, Leptospira and Mycobacterium paratuberculosis. ... سال انتشار: 2011
