Authers: Sedigheh Sadat Tavafian, PhD, Ahmad Reza Jamshidi, Kazem Mohammad, PhD

Abstract: This randomized clinical trial examined the efficacies of a group-based multidisciplinary rehabilitation program and oral drug treatment versus oral drug treatment alone in Iran. Methods: A total of 197 patients with chronic low back pain were randomized to either intervention group (n=97) receiving a groupbased, 5-session multidisciplinary rehabilitation program plus oral medication or to control group (n=100) receiving just oral medication. At baseline and at 3 and 6-month follow-ups, patients filled out questionnaires on health-related quality of life ... سال انتشار: 2011

Abstract: Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a chronic inflammatory disease, characterized by axial arthritis in which the genetic–environmental factors seem to be involved in the pathogenesis of the disease. This study was performed to investigate the role of polymorphisms of the programmed cell death 1 (PDCD1) gene on susceptibility to AS. In this study, 161 Iranian patients with AS and 208 normal controls were enrolled; two single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the PDCD1 gene PD-1.3 (G, A) in ... سال انتشار: 2011

Authers: Sahar Noori, Keramat Nourijelyani, Kazem Mohammad, Mohammad Hossein Niknam, Mahdi Mahmoudi, Laris Andonian, Arash Akaberi

Abstract: Technology advances in this century, especially, in molecular generics yields high volume, high dimensional data. This creates many unprecedented challenges for statisticians who are responsible for analysis of such data. Although logistic regression method is quite popular in association analysis in medical researches but it has some serious limitations in handling high dimensional data. In present study, our goal is introduce a modern model-free statistical method called random forest that we believe is able to overcome difficulties ... سال انتشار: 2011

Mesenchymal stem cell therapy for knee osteoarthritis. Preliminary report of four patients

Authers: Fereydoun DAVATCHI, Bahar SADEGHI ABDOLLAHI, Mandana MOHYEDDIN, Farhad SHAHRAM1, Behrooz NIKBIN

Abstract: Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a cartilage degenerative process, involving the immune system, producing local inflammatory reactions, with production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and metalloproteinases. No treatment is still available to improve or reverse the process. Stem cell therapy opened new horizons for treatment of many incurable diseases. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) due to their multi-lineage potential, immunosuppressive activities, limited immunogenicity and relative ease of growth in culture, have attracted attentions for clinical use. Aim: The aim of ... سال انتشار: 2011

Abstract: It is of general belief that males are prone to more frequent, more severe manifestations, and less favorable outcome. We evaluated this hypothesis in ophthalmological manifestations (OM) of Behcet's Disease (BD). Visual acuity (VA), anterior uveitis, posterior uveitis (PU), and retinal vasculitis (RV) were checked, according to Ben Ezra, in 1,515 patients with eye lesions. The data at baseline and last visit were compared. Male/female ratio was 1.2 in the BD registry (6,500 patients) and 1.51 for OM patients ... سال انتشار: 2011

Diagnosis/Classification Criteria for Behcet’s Disease

Authers: Fereydoun Davatchi

Abstract: Historical Background. The ISG criteria for Behcet’s, created in 1990, have excellent specificity, but lack sensitivity. The International Criteria for Behcet’s Disease (ICBD) was created in 2006, as replacement to ISG. The aim of this study was to compare their performance. ISG and ICBD Criteria. For ISG oral aphthosis is mandatory. The presence of any two of the following (genital aphthosis, skin lesions, eye lesions, and positive pathergy test) will diagnose/classify the patient ... سال انتشار: 2011

Abstract: In Behcet’s disease (BD), it is customary to believe that men are more affected than women, major organs are more involved in men, and they have worse outcomes. The male-to-female ratio is reported from 5.37 to 1 (Egypt), to 0.38 to 1 (US). If in the majority of reports BD was seen more frequently in men, in some others it was more frequent in women. Ninety patients with AS were included in this study. The ... سال انتشار: 2011

Association of mitochondrial polymorphism m.709G>A with Behçet’s disease

Authers: Joana M Xavier, Niloofar Mojarad Shafiee, Fahmida Ghaderi

Abstract: The involvement of nuclear genes in Behçet’s disease (BD) risk has been investigated, but the role of the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) has been completely neglected. Mitochondria are the main intracellular source of reactive oxygen species produced during normal aerobic metabolism via the electron transport chain and since mitochondrial dysfunction may underlie a multitude of clinical features in multifactorial and multisystemic diseases such as BD, we assessed whether mtDNA single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and haplogroups confer susceptibility to BD. A total ... سال انتشار: 2011

Authers: M. Mahmoudi, A.A. Amirzargar, A.R. Jamshidi, E. Farhadi, S. Noori, M. Avraee, B. Nazari, M.H. Nicknam

Abstract: Objective. Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is one of the mostcommoncauses of inflammatory arthritis, with an estimated prevalence of 0.1-0.9%. Genetic factors have been strongly implicated in its aetiology, and heritability as assessed by twin studies has been estimated to be>90%. HLA- B27 is almost essential for inheritance of AS; it is not merely sufficient for explaining the pattern of familial recurrence of the disease. This study’s purpose is to investigate the association of ankylosing spondylitis ... سال انتشار: 2011
